The Walking Dead just wrapped up the first half of Season 5 with the midseason finale, "Coda." And for the better part of the series' run, fans have questioned the sexuality of Daryl Dixon, the original character created for the series and played by Norman Reedus. Series creator Robert Kirkman has finally put the issue to bed.

Kirkman appeared on the Talking Dead after show on Sunday night and addressed the issue of Daryl's sexuality directly. "In the letter column of the comic book that I do, I mentioned that there was a possibility early on about making Daryl Dixon's character gay," he said. "I just wanted to clarify that the possibility is there and that I would have been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it - but we ultimately didn't do that. I can make it official: Daryl Dixon is straight."

Kirkman added that a "prominent" homosexual character from the comic book would debut in the second half of Season 5, which begins in February. The first one that springs to mind is Aaron, a member of the Alexandria safe zone who joins up with Rick and his friends.

Kirkman spoke to TVLine in August and previewed the arrival of this gay character. He also mentioned Daryl's sexuality in that same interview. "We're not holding back information on Daryl's sexuality as any sort of big reveal," he said. "The fact that there's still a question as to what Daryl's orientation is in Season 5 absolutely speaks to Daryl's character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways."

What do you think of Kirkman's remarks? Who is this gay character that will show up soon? Let us know in the comments section.
