Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith and Miley Cyrus lead off the names for the 2015 Grammy Awards, showcasing just how massive a year it has been for music's biggest stars. Beyoncé made some history, while a cavalcade of stars popped up across the Grammy nominations, covering Ariana Grande to U2 and Jack White to Lady Gaga... but any controversy surrounding the mooted nomination of Iggy Azalea for Best Rap Performance was defused due to the Aussie rapper missing out, instead getting nods in three other categories. The big winner, however, was Smith.

As USA Today report, UK sensation Sam Smith possesses the highest number of nominations so far with five, as his "Stay With Me" single has become a monster international success. Favorites like Swift, Beyoncé and Williams were also nominated, acknowledging how much of an impact they've made over the past 12 months. Pharrell's hit album Girl and infectious single "Happy" were both nominated.

As for Queen Bey, with the nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Beyoncé, as Billboard report the superstar goes "past Dolly Parton to become the most-nominated woman in Grammy history", with 47 nominations and 17 wins.

Australians Iggy Azalea and Sia both scored four nominations, with The Washington Post pointing out that Azalea "scooped up four nominations, including Record of the Year and Pop Duo/Group Performance for the inescapable "Fancy," along with Rap Album" while Sia's "Chandelier" walked away with "four nods for Record, Song, Pop Solo Performance and Music Video".

Swift's smash album 1989 isn't eligible for this year's Grammys, but world-dominating single "Shake It Off" was nominated for three categories, same for the similarly-dominant "All About That Bass" from Meghan Trainor.
