Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer is in the middle of bitter divorce from her estranged husband Jeremy Calvert, but her family blames MTV for perpetuating the issues in her life, including the drug abuse that was caught on camera.

During a difficult time in 2013, Leah turned to medication after finding out her daughter, Ali, was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.

"Leah was a total zombie. She was so upset and nervous," a source told Radar Online. "In order to calm her nerves, she was prescribed anti-anxiety pills by a doctor."

Apparently, the meds made her loopy until she got used to them. In one scene on her reality show, Leah was seen falling asleep while on the phone in a doctor's office.

This made Jeremy livid, who "told off a cameraman for filming her in such a state," according to Radar. "He didn't think it was right."

Even the reality mom felt like the network used her condition for ratings.

"They knew the extreme stress she was going through. They took advantage of her during a difficult period," the source said. "People don't know how much she suffers every day."

As MStars News reported, the West Virginia native is in a nasty custody battle with the father of her twins Corey Simms. She doesn't want the drama on the show, including the drug use, to make her lose her girls.

"Leah's final court date is coming up, and her behavior on the show made her look really bad to the judge," a source told Radar.

"Leah's daughters are her number one priority," the source continued. "Now that the show could lead her to lose custody, she's ready to leave her reality TV life behind."

Previously, the online tabloid alleged the reality star was taking a harmful combination of pills, "We think Leah could be taking powerful painkillers including Lortab and Percocet. They are very easy to get on the streets in her hometown [in West Virginia]."
