It was always promised that Kyrie Irving would be a star. In the basketball world, nothing says you're a star more than having your own shoe line.

Now, in Irving's fourth year in the NBA, the promise has officially been kept, as Nike made Irving the first player in six years to receive his own sneaker when the "KYRIE 1" was unveiled this week in New York City, according to Sports Illustrated.

With the deal Irving joins an elite team — the second he's currently on — of Nike signature athletes. The short list of NBA players now sits at four: Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving.

That's good company.

"As a kid, imagining that I'd be in the Nike family with my own shoe was something that seemed almost unattainable," Irving said in a press release. "Now that I've received th KYRIE 1, I'm honored to represent Nike and its next generation of players."

The shoe is cool. Really cool. Sports Illustrated reports it features specialized cushioning, "360-degree dynamic traction and hyperfuse construction for better stability."

Specialized versions featuring the "Dream" and "Deceptive Red" colorways go on sale in North American on December 23 and January 10, respectively.

ESPN reported that Irving said, "It's great to have the support of Nike and the guys who came before me, like Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. It makes the juice taste that much sweeter."

Irving told James, his mentor, first, according to ESPN. Here's what King James had to said about the accomplishment:

"It's great. I'm happy for him," James said. "I was there as a friend, as a teammate, as a brother of his. I know what it's all about.

Overall, Irving is the 20th player to recieve his own show and the first since Kevin Durant in 2007, according to ESPN.

His star is rising.
