It looks like this is definitely the season of Anna Kendrick singing in new movie trailers! We've seen her in Into The Woods and Pitch Perfect 2 previews, but this week we're treated to the Broadway musical film adaptation of The Last Five Years. Co-starring Jeremy Jordan and influenced by the semi-autobiographical musical written by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, The Last 5 Years is being praised as one of the best musicals in a very long time. This new movie opens February 13, 2015, just in time for Valentine's Day.
Cathy and Jamie start a whirlwind romance that leads to marriage, but ends in heartbreak. The love, lust and turmoil of the relationship is expressed in fun and then devastating musical numbers, telling the story of how this love started and ended.

Here is the official synopsis of The Last 5 Years from Icon Film Distribution (via Slash Film):
THE LAST FIVE YEARS by Tony award winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown is a musical deconstruction of a love affair and a marriage taking place over a five year period. Jamie Wellerstein is a young, talented up and coming novelist who falls in love with Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through songs using an intercutting time line device; all of Cathy's songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time to the beginning of their love affair while Jamie's songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. Its beautiful pop music score portrays an honest, heartbreaking, often funny, exploration of love and it's consequences on individual identity.
