Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao would be the fight of the century. After years of speculating and hype, could it really, finally, actually happen?

"We are ready," Mayweather said to Showtime. "Let's make it happen. May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let's do it."

This apparent commitment comes on the heels of pressure put on by Pacquiao's crew after Pacquiao defended his wealterweight title with a win over Chris Algieri on Nov. 22.

"I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao," Mayweather told Showtime. "We tried to make it the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing. I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he's in a very, very tight situation. He lost to Marquez, he's lost to Bradley. Pay-per-view numbers are extremely low. He's desperate."

On the other side, Pacquiao has been jabbing with his mouth as well. He recently dissed Mayweather's fighting style, saying all of his previous fights have "induced us to sleep," referring to Pacquiao's camp and entourage. "I will try my best to make this a thrilling and entertaining fight," Pacquiao continued, assuming Mayweather wouldn't play his part. "He has reached a dead end."

Pacquiao also said Mayweather is turning to fight him out of desperation. Ironically, that's the same thing Mayweather said about Pacquiao. The two will continue to go back and forth until May 2, and beyond, assuming the much-anticipated fight actually occurs.

It's not a sure thing.

The two sides have been putting off the fight since 2009, ESPN reports, with negotiations stalling every time. It's at the point where fans may be bored of the cat-and-mouse game, or bored of anything but. ESPN reports both Pacquiao and Mayweather have seen their PPV numbers drop recently.

Mayweather is the one typically accused of avoiding Pacquiao, according to Bleacher Report.
