In 2013, iconic newsman and former anchor of NBC Nightly News Tom Brokaw was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. This week, 74-year-old Special Correspondent for NBC News sent a note to network employees, revealing that his cancer is now in remission. Brokaw's note, of course, mentioned his "Greatest Generation" slogan that he made popular, but it was certainly welcome with the amazing news of him beating the deadly disease.

"A year ago my future was more uncertain than I cared to acknowledge but now I face the New Year with very encouraging news," Brokaw wrote in his note to his employees, according to NBC News. "The cancer is in remission and I will shortly go on a drug maintenance regimen to keep it there."

Brokaw is one of the most iconic voices of the last 50 years of news. His unfortunate diagnosis last year had many Americans worried for the man they grew to love hearing the news of the world from, but we can all wrest pretty easy tonight knowing that he has come out victorious from the otherwise dire situation.

He added: "I flew home reflecting again on how lucky we are that generation gave us the lives we have today - how my last year was a challenge but I was meeting it in world class hospitals with brilliant physicians, not in a foxhole in the Ardennes."

Brokaw ends his note, which spoke mostly about his time in the military, wishing his NBC staff a happy New Year. He signed the note "T-Bone," which definitely speaks to the man's true sense of his self and his love of life now that he has officially beaten cancer.
