Known for his illustrations of Conan The Barbarian and Princess Of Mars, the sole film of the late Frank Frazetta is getting a modern update. El Mariachi and Desperado director Robert Rodriguez will put his cinematic touch on a live-action version of the 1983 cult animated film, Fire And Ice.

While Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is out on DVD and Blu-Ray, the talented filmmaker is running his own El Rey Network.Though the sports/spy drama, Matador, has been cancelled, the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn the TV series has been renewed. Because we are huge funds of Lucha Underground, we can't wait to hear about new projects from the Spy Kids director.

In the original narrative, a small village is destroyed by a surging glacier from the evil Ice Lord, Nekron (Sean Hannon). The sole survivor is a young warrior Larn (Randy Norton) who vows vengeance. Nekron's subhuman, apelike creatures suddenly kidnap the fire king's daughter Teegra (Cynthia Lenke), Larn nand Darkwolf (Steve Sandor) are determined to track down and free her.

According to Deadline, the Machete Kills writer/director has been a longtime friend of the late artist and continues to tour Frazetta's artwork, discussing his legacy. The Sin City director promises to pay proper homage by using the old Fire And Ice as the template. The aim is make multiple installments as the setting now takes place in a brutal and primitive world.

Rodriguez analyzes the similarities between adapting Frazetta and Frank Miller's art technique, "Sin City reflected Miller's two-dimensional plane and had an abstract very graphic quality to it, while Frazetta's is this heightened reality, or rather layers of unreality that create a dream like reality you can get lost in, with an adventure film right out of his imagination. If we get the script in the next couple months, by the end of spring or start of summer, we start preproduction."
