Based on the Dark Horse Comics graphic novel, Syfy has announced the cast of their new drama series, Dark Matter. Gat ready to launch into space with Jodelle Ferland (Twilight), Roger Cross (The Strain), and Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl), Melissa O'Neil (Les Miserables), Marc Bendavid (Bitten), Anthony Lemke (White House Down), and Alex Mallari Jr. (Robocop).

Based on the Dark Horse website, the narrative follows a derelict ship floating in space. The entire crew awakens from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Their search for answers suddenly triggers the vessel's deadly security system. As the relentless android seeks their destruction, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, redemption, betrayals, and hidden secrets best left unknown.

The adaption will follow the comic drawn by Garry Brown and written the executive producers and writers of the Stargate franchise, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. The original 4-issue miniseries will be turned into a 13 one-hour episode arc.

Syfy programming SVP Chris Regina tells Spinoff Online, "Dark Matter is a refreshing and entertaining space opera that blends an intriguing premise with fast-paced suspense."

As we have previously mentioned, Syfy has renewed Z Nation, starring DJ Qualls, Tom Everett Scott, and Kellita Smith, for a second season.

With the success of The Strain on FX, which the first season is also out on DVD and Blu-Ray, Dark Horse is on a roll with their comic book adaptations. We're also wonder what this means for the 24 star and his role on The Strain as Reggie Fitzwilliam.

During the first season finale, Reggie refused to work anymore for Eldritch Palmer (Jonathan Hyde). Palmer told Reggie he would seek out revenge for his betrayal. Will Reggie be killed off in the season season or will he join the vampire hunters against The Master?

Dark Matter begins production in Toronto on January 7 and premieres Summer 2015. Readers, are you excited to see this new space thriller?
