San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh will be fired within 48 hours of the end of the NFL team's season, says Jay Glazer. The coach - who has gone - is facing mounting speculation he will head to an NFL team such as the Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, or New York Jets, or perhaps head back to college to take over his alma mater the Michigan Wolverines. Harbaugh coached at Stanford before heading to the NFL and taking the 49ers to the 2012 Super Bowl, as well as the 2011 and 2013 NFC Championship games. If Jim Harbaugh goes, where does that leave 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick?

In his highly successful stint as 49ers coach, Harbaugh has gone 43-19-1 and gone to the final two rounds of the playoffs for the past three years, but, reports Fox Sports' Glazer, it's going to come to an end in a way that's "swift". Says Glazer, "I'm saying within 24-48 hours they're going to end that relationship." He adds that Michigan have reached out the 49ers, and that the Bears are showing renewed interest in the coach.

As for where he will go, ESPN's Adam Schefter said on NFL Insiders that "The pendulum has shifted to Michigan and him going back to college."

But Harbaugh himself told reporters that he's not going to add to the speculation, saying: "What will happen, will happen. What won't happen, won't happen."

As NBC Sports report, Harbaugh is taking the high road. "The high road's the only road I know. I'll keep on that." He continued saying, "As you know, I've not participated in any of these speculations and unnamed sources, the rumors, I would ask you to have Jay Glazer go back and ask his sources for more clarification," Harbaugh said. ... "I haven't participated and I don't intend to now. And this has been a good 12 months of this kind of thing. No reason to start now."

But, says CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora, Harbaugh isn't the only NFL name that Michigan are chasing, reporting that the Wolverines are looking at prying the Dallas Cowboy's Jason Garrett, Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone or New Orleans coach Sean Payton away from their current gigs.

He also says that because "Other teams" around the NFL "realize the 49ers' relationship with Harbaugh is broken, and his departure is inevitable," the 49ers have lost most of their leverage, "despite having a year left on his deal, is being seen as negligible around the industry."

As for Kaepernick? Trade him, say fans. Ouch.

Either way, says Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel, the 49ers will regret letting Harbaugh go. "Next week the Niners will end their Jim Harbaugh era," says Wetzel. "Soon enough, they'll look back wistfully on it."
