Deemed as one of the greatest all-time TV shows ever, the critically acclaimed crime drama, The Wire is making its way back on HBO. From Seasons 1 to 5, get to to relive the streets of Baltimore with Idris Elba (Russell 'Stringer' Bell), Dominic West (Jimmy McNulty), and Michael K. Williams (Omar Little) in The Wire Remastered Marathon .

As we previously reported, the entire series has been beautifully re-mastered in 16×9 Full-Frame HD from more than 8,000 reels of original 35mm camera negative. This allows for a tighter fit on widescreen TVs, along with computer/tablet screens. A lot of effort went into the scanning, editing and color correcting the original.

Created by David Simon, the serial drama centers on the illegal drug trade set, the political system, and the news media in Baltimore. With its social themes about a city in turmoil, viewers witnessed how drug culture and poverty affected the police, the dealers, and politicians. Deemed as a visual novel, we saw how criminals became trapped in their existence and the eruption of violence through bureaucratic incompetence.

Here are 5 Reasons why you should see the The Wire marathon on HBO:

5) Omar Little

Omar Little is a notorious Baltimore stick-up man, who has to keep his homosexuality hidden. He has to keep his masculinity in check with violent criminals., while accompanying his elderly grandmother to church. Omar meets his death on The Wire just as Michael K. Williams's Chucky White meets his tragic end on Boardwalk Empire.

4) Game of Thrones

Before he was Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish, Aiden Gillian played another schemer, the ambitious Baltimore politician Tommy" Carcetti. Audiences watched him begin from the bottom as a Councilman, rise up to Mayor, and reach the top as Governor.

3) He'll Be The Next James Bond

We hope that the Sony leaks are true and that Luther himself is going to say, "Shaken, not stirred," in a Bond movie. The Wire is how audiences in America got to know the Pacififc Rim actor.

2) Before They're On The Walking Dead

After playing Dennis "Cutty" Wise, Chad L. Coleman jumped in to fight zombies as Tyreese. Though Bob was almost eaten alive by cannibals, I'm pretty sure D'Angelo Barksdale (Lawrence Gilliard, Jr.) would have given them something to be scared about. Seth Gilliam, who played detective Ellis Carver, joined this current season of TWD as father Gabriel Stokes.

1) It Became A Musical

You have to admit, the cast must have had fun with this over-the-top Funny or Die parody. The song-and-dance number hilariously starts with "Omar's coming!"

The Wire marathon begins on HBO Signature starting Friday, December 26. Readers, what did you most like about the show?
