Washington Nationals pitcher Doug Fister made $7.2 million in 2014, according to Sports Illustrated, so the former Detroit Tiger has the funds to spread some serious holiday cheer. And amazingly, that's just what Fister did when on Christmas Eve he tweeted a Starbucks gift card barcode to all his followers, telling them to help themselves.

Fister has 26,000 followers. Everyone in the world drinks coffee. Do the math.

"Merry Christmas Eve! Have a Starbucks on us!" Fister tweeted last week. "Have the barista scan the pic below. Don't be a grinch, please use for 1."

The gesture was retweeted 2,500 times and favorited 2,839 times. So while its unclear exactly how much money was on the card, its safe to say Fister's fans got their money's worth.

It didn't take long. Fister's first tweet came around 3 p.m. eastern time, and by 6:30 p.m. eastern time he was on Twitter again, explaining that the well was dry.

"Sorry for the misunderstanding," he wrote. "The gift card was meant as a first come, first serve until the amount ran out, just a little holiday gift."

Fister extended to his followers more generosity than he did opposing hitters in 2014. For the first time in his career, Fister placed in the Cy Young voting. He posted a 2.41 ERA and 16-6 record in 164 innings pitched to place eighth in the NL voting, according to Baseball Reference. His ERA and win totals were all career highs.

Fister was signed by the Nationals before the 2014 season and solidified their rotation as one of the best in baseball. With Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman, Fister and Gio Gonzalez, the Nationals won the National League East and look poised to make another run in 2015. With barcodes on tap, maybe Fister will help the interns out when spring rolls around again.
