Steve Harvey's talk show "Steve Harvey" premiered on Tuesday September 4 adding one more job on his already full plate. The 55-year-old revealed to LAtimes.com why he decided to enter in daytime TV instead of hosting a late night show.
Harvey explained that over the years, his brand and character grown to fit daytime television more. The late night shows are not about inspiration and uplifting others, he noted. With where he is in life and his wholesomeness, he felt that the daytime audience was a much better fit.
He also acknowledged that no one could top Ellen Degeneres' funny bone, he did mention that he expects to fill in the void for a male perspective.
When asked about the competition with more new talk shows coming out in the fall, Harvey said, "If a person is having a great season somewhere else, I applaud it. I'm going to do my best to have the best season I can have."
His focus is not to top others, but to present himself as who Steve Harvey is giving honest "commonsense" advice for regular people.
Harvey is a hardworking man awaking in the wee hours of the morning in order to prepare for his morning radio program "The Steve Harvey Morning Show" four hours a day five days a week. He also has a role as ring leader in "Family Feud."
With the new daytime talk show, Harvey has no room for anything on the weekdays. However, he said that it is the first time he will not have to work on the weekends.
