Mario Cuomo Dead: Katie Couric, Russell Simmons, Bill Clinton Offer #RIP Twitter Condolences To Ex NY Governor

At the age of 82, Mario Cuomo, the former three-term governor of New York passed away. As a tribute to his political presence in government, former U.S. president Bill Clinton, Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric, and Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons, and more offer their #RIP condolences on Twitter

According to the New York Times, the 52nd governor of New York passed away due to heart failure. The confirmation of his death came just hours his son, Andrew Cuomo, was inaugurated for his second term as governor. In his obituary piece, Cuomo knew what he wanted written on his tombstone, "People asked me what I want as an epitaph. 'He tried'"

Clinton tweets, "Saddened by the passing of Mario Cuomo - a passionate public servant and the embodiment of the American dream. "

The joint statement continues on the Clinton Foundation site, "Our hearts and prayers go out to Matilda, Andrew, Margaret, Maria, Madeline, Christopher, his grandchildren, and all who were blessed by his life."

Couric adds, "So sorry to hear about the death of  Mario Cuomo. RIP Governor and heartfelt condolences to the Cuomo family."

Simmons mentions, "RIP Governor Mario Cuomo. One of the greatest progressives this country has ever known. He will be greatly missed..."

Larry King fondly remembers, "So saddened by Mario Cuomo's death. He was my FIRST guest on Larry King Live & one of the brightest men ever. His was a great American life!"

Though this is sad news, the current 56th governor of New York states, "When things are at their worst, New Yorkers are at their best. #NYGov2015"

To its own anchorman, Chris Cuomo, CNN's New Day shares a photo of his father and writes, "@CNN pays tribute to the incredible life of fmr. New York Gov. Mario Cuomo on @NewDay from 6-9amET. #RIP @ChrisCuomo"
