BBC Two will premiere this new year their six-part miniseries period drama based on the best-selling Hilary Mantel novels. Through their historical counterparts, will Jonathan Pryce, Mark Rylance, and Damian Lewis discover they are all scheming and back-stabbing "serpents" in Wolf Hall?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Thomas Cromwell is portrayed by acclaimed actor multiple Tony Awards winner Rylance, who recently played Olivia in Twelfth Night. The Homeland actor Lewis plays Henry VIII. Based on Wolf Hall and its sequel, the Bring Up the Bodies, the story follows Cromwell as he rises through the ranks to become the right-hand man of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey (Pryce), adviser to the King.

After Wolsey's fall from grace, Cromwell take his place as the most powerful of Henry's ministers. In the historical timeline, Henry's divorce from Catherine of Aragon and subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn will cause English church's break with Rome and the dissolution of the monasteries.

During their intense standoff, Henry coldly tells Cromwell, "I keep you because you are a serpent,"
