Rihanna VMA 2012: Friendly Chris Brown Kiss and Embrace Mean Something More? [VIDEO]

While some fans were dismayed to hear that they would not be witnessing a Kristen Stewart-Robert Pattinson post-cheating scandal encounter at Thursday evening's 2012 MTV VMAs, Rihanna and her ex-flame Chris Brown were still scheduled to bump into one another at the popular music awards event. And while only a quick interaction was captured on video, the R&B star and her former "Don't Wake Me Up" love interest shared a brief, warm embrace which included two slight kisses (one on the lips and another on the cheek). So now fans are asking, what exactly IS the status on the celebrity duo's relationship?

Check out the clip of the Rihanna and Brown VMA meeting (many audience members sitting in close proximity bore witness to the "kissing." This video was captured by YouTube user itsyaboysharrod):

While some audio would have been nice to see if any actual words were exchanged between the two stars, the video doesn't exactly prove if the interaction was sexually tense or merely friendly. Some fans believe that a romantic relationship is not totally out of the question - Rihanna recently appeared on an episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter," where she admitted to the popular talk show host that her and Brown have "rebuilt their friendship" and that "she still loves him." Brown is supposedly dating model Karrueche Tran at the moment.

So what do fans think? Was Rihanna's walking up to Brown a friendly, good-natured acknowledgement, or something a little bit more? Looks like the rumor mill is still rolling regarding their dramatic relationship (Brown was charged with domestically abusing the "Where Have you Been" songstress back in 2009, which ultimately led to the couple's breakup).
