Players should get ready to play the latest game in the Star Trek universe. The vast frontier of space is up for grabs in Star Trek: Alien Domain as GameSamba has announced its Second Closed Beta and In-Game Officer System for the free-to-play online strategy game.

According to Gamers Hell, the narrative is set many years after the events of Star Trek: Voyager, when Captain Kathryn Janeway (played by Kate Mulgrew) and her starship crew were lost in space, trying to find their way back home. Gamers will get a chance to take on the role of either a new Federation or Klingon captain. Their starship has become trapped in an unexplored realm of fluidic space.

The press release states the multiplayer online strategy game will include an Officer System. Players will get to recruit officers from their respective factions, who have also been stranded in fluidic space. These recruits are non-playable characters, whose roles span from the full variety of crew positions. Star Trek fans will get to be engineers, scientists, security officers, and more.

GameSamba currently hosts a community event on the official ST:AD forum. Gamers will compete a chance to name and create a personal backstory for some of these characters.

Alien Domain previously hled its first closed beta test, which ran during December 1 through 12. The Second Closed Beta will begin on January 15 at 6:00p.m. PST.

As we previously mentioned, outside of the gaming world and in Hollywood, Justin Lin has been named the director for Star Trek 3, replacing Roberto Orci. Until the third installment arrives in 2016, movie-goers will have to settle with actor Chris Pine in Into The Woods.

The Second Closed Beta for Star Trek: Alien Domain is scheduled for to start on January 15. Readers, are you excited to command your own fleet?
