9/11 Anniversary 2012: Celebs Tweet Loving Remembrance and Support

Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 marks the 11th anniversary of the devastating terrorist attacks which took place back in 2001. 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger planes, including American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 which targeted the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and while hijackers intended to aim United Airlines Flight 93 towards the United States Capitol Build in in Washington, D.C., on-flight passengers attempted to take control of the plane which then crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

A number of celebrities hit up the popular social networking site Twitter on Tuesday in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 men and women who lost their lives in the 2001 mass terrorist attacks. Specials on the Discovery Channel, History Channel, and Channel 21 in New York will air in remembrance of the events which took place on Sept. 11, 2001.
