Jessica Simpson on Katie Couric: New, Slender Mom Lambasted for Baby Bikini Pic

On the debut episode of Katie Couric's new ABC daytime show that aired on Monday, pop star Jessica Simpson sported a new and slender post-baby bod. The 32-year old, who has already shed 40 pounds and said she had about 10 more to lose to reach her goal weight, also shared an intimate photo of four-month-old daughter Maxwell. The baby pic, which shows little Maxwell posing in a tiny yellow bikini, has since attracted wide criticism, including from the British child welfare charity Kidscape.

According to Kidscape director Claude Knights, it was "highly inappropriate" for Simpson to present her newborn child in such a "negative" light:

"It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini," Knights told The Daily Mail. "Celebrity choices carry great influence, as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and behaviors are copied widely."

Knight continued with this: "It is hoped that parents will understand that 'baby bikinis' are totally inappropriate and that they contribute to the sexualization and commercialization of childhood. We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children's early years."

Some Twitter fans also weren't too happy with the little yellow bikini, some tweeting:

On the other hand, some fans found the criticism a little harsh:

@Its_ChloeA: "This is so ridiculous Jessica Simpson's baby looks cute in a bikini, I don't see the harm in it at all."

‏@MissPoppyWhitny: "So Jessica Simpson put her 4 month old baby in a bikini so what? I'd do the same,more important things going on in the world."

Maybe it wasn't the best pic to debut to the world, but surely Simpson meant no harm. Maxwell looks adorable! What do fans think?
