When Dustin Pedroia's new baby decided that it was time to come out, Pedroia stopped in the middle of the game, and rushed off the field to be with his wife Kelli who starting to go into labor on the stands. The Boston Red Sox came to know the news during the warm up before the seventh inning from manager Bobby Valentine. A video captured that decisive moment.
The second baseman also missed another game back in 2009 when his first child was born. At that time, Kelli was facing some complications.
As Pedroia left the game, he gained approval from fans and slapped some high fives along the way out.
When he left, Red Sox opponents Yankees tweeted, Dustin Pedroia's wife goes into labor! Good luck, Pedroias from Yankee fans...and thanks for missing a critical 9th inning at-bat! - Willie"
Red Sox lost to the Yankees 5-4 that night while Pedroia gained a newborn baby. Life is more important than a baseball game right?
