Tom Sims died from a heart attack on September 12, 2012 at age 62. He was pronounced dead in the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital after suffering from cardiac arrest. Sims was considered a legendary snowboarder who made the first "skateboard for the snow" back in 1963.
Sims founded the brand SIMS® in 1976 and held the honor of creating many "firsts" in the snowboarding industry. The first original snowboard, first pro-model snowboard, the first women's snowboard, first metal edge snowboard and the first folding highback bindings can all be attributed to Sims.
He leaves behind his wife Hilary, and two sons Tommy and Shane, one daughter Sarah, and two step daughters Alexa and Kylie Wagner. He is survived by his wife Hilary. He is also survived by his sister Margie Sims Klinger.
