'American Drug Lord' Cast: Charlie Hunnam, 'Sons of Anarchy' Jax Teller, Joins Crime Drama! [WATCH]

After playing the role of Jax Teller for seven seasons, the Sons of Anarchy star is making his way to the Hollywood big screen. Charlie Hunnam has joined the cast of American Drug Lord, which is based of the true crime story of the most feared and dangerous cartel leader Edgar Valdez.

Deadline first reported that the Pacific Rim actor will play a complex character who has sunk himself into the drug trade. Legendary has acquired the rights to the 2011 Rolling Stone article entitled, American Drug Lord. American Sniper scribe Jason Hall has been contracted to write the screenplay.

Based on the real-life story of Edgar Valdez, the high school football player from Texas became the only U.S. citizen to rise to the level of cartel leader in Mexico. From his base in Acapulco, Valdez, nicknamed La Barbi,made $130 million in one year moving drugs from Colombia.After filming the brutal executions of his rivals and posting them on the Internet, the rival cartels joined up with the crooked cops to stop him.

Entertainment Weekly mentions the Green Street actor will produce alongside Legendary and Plan B's Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. Sarah Esberg of Plan B will also executive produce. Hunnam also has the Pacific Rim sequel and Crimson Peak in the works.

The last time audiences saw Jax Teller was in the series finale. Jax had stepped down as president of the motorcycle club, handing over the throne to Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) and Tig (Kim Coates). For the deaths of their former sheriff and the matriarch of the club, Jax rode straight to his death, directly towards an incoming truck, as he was being chased by the entire Charming police force.

The FX series will also continue as a videogame titled, Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect.
