Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen have appeared in every X-Men movie except for X-Men: First Class, but the two actors will not reprise their roles as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively, in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016.

Stewart confirmed to Larry King that he and his good friend would not appear in Bryan Singer's next movie. "No, nor Sir Ian McKellen, either," he told King when asked about it. "I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters," Stewart added. "And so I don't think we'll be making an appearance."

A report emerged recently that Taron Egerton is one of three contenders for the role of Young Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse. Shortly after that, the actor responded to those rumors.

"I really can't comment on the Cyclops thing," Egerton said during a Q&A after a special screening of Kingsman: The Secret Service. "I'm not really sure what's going on there or where that [rumor] came from, but my friend Nicholas Hoult plays Beast and he says that's very fun. Of course, everyone would like to play a superhero, but this is by no means me saying I would like to go play Cyclops. So, I don't know."

The other two actors in contention are reportedly Jamie Blackley and Tye Sheridan.

Some fans have been a bit concerned about how director Bryan Singer will bring the imposing X-Men villain to the big screen. But Oscar Isaac, who plays the titular villain, spoke to MTV News at the National Board of Review Awards recently and assured fans not to worry.

"I've seen a couple things," he said. "Scary sh*t. Scary sh*t. I'm going to bring [the X-Men] down to their knees. It's amazing. I'm so excited about everything that's going to happen."
