With all the hype surrounding who will play the coveted roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey," some fans may be wondering where the mastermind behind the whole kinky love plot, E.L James, is left standing in all of the casting call mayhem. Well no worries, "Fifty Shades" enthusiasts, the author of the hit erotica novel admits that one small character within the novel is based on yours truly, and James hopes to snag the role herself when it comes time for "Fifty Shades of Grey" to hit the big screen.

James recently appeared on an episode of Katie Couric's new daytime talk show, and told the popular television personality, "I've actually written myself into the book; I play a very tiny cameo role and I might try and do that if I'm asked to ... we'll see." How neat would that be?

James is all full of mystery, going on to say, "It'd be interesting to know if people can find me in the books. I have three people who could play Christian and I think four who could play Ana, and I'm not going to tell you any of them."

So that's it - fans are left guessing just which "Fifty Shades" character James had based off of her herself, and she doesn't offer up a clue as to which celebrities are big contenders for playing Grey and Steele. Oh, the agony (still in the running? Well rumors have it Lucy Hale, Emma Watson, and Alexis Bledel could be up for Ana and Ryan Gosling, Ian Somerhalder, and Matt Bomer are some fan-favorites for Grey).

Without naming any names, James goes on to share some behind-the-scenes info with Couric: "Ummm," James laughed when asked about the film, "it's a sort of collaborative effort, but there's, you know, a studio, a production company, there's two producers, and at some point there's going to be a director. So I'm sure everybody will have input into that."

How about a screenwriter? At this point it looks like "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans may get no specifics about the film until the end credits roll! Until more information is officially released, fans can continue expressing their opinions as to who should play Grey and Steele in the comments below.
