R. Kelly makes Soul Train History after bringing him a total of 21 nominations, making him the most nominated act ever. He is nominated for the Ashford & Simpson songwriter's award and for Album of the Year Award for his latest work, "Write Me Back."  Even though, Kelly is a strong contender; he faces Usher who leads in nominations this year.

This is definitely an upside after a rough year for the Rhythm and Blues singer.  Kelly, recovered from an emergency throat surgery after finding out he had an abscess in one of his tonsils and battled some legal troubles after owing nearly $5 million in back taxes to the IRS. The IRS was after the singer's earning that dated back from 2005. Kelly issued a statement saying, "R. Kelly is in the process of working everything out with the government and is confident that all his obligations will be satisfied." In addition to previous legalities, Kelly was found not guilty of child pornography in 2008.

With all the bad behind him, Kelly plans on releasing 32 more chapters of his mini-series, "Trapped in the Closet," which is set to debut this year.  Also, the singer announced "The Single Ladies Tour" alongside singer, Tamia which kicks off October 13th in Columbia, SC.

The Soul Train Awards, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, will air Nov. 25th on BET and Centric.
