Jake Gyllenhaal may not have been aware that his name has been thrown around in regards to Christian Grey casting rumors for the highly anticipated film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey," but the 31-year-old actor seems very intrigued by the idea. While many fans consider Gyllenhaal a hot contender for the steamy role, he recently addressed the "Fifty Shades of Grey" casting rumors himself, stating that he'd be very interested in the part.
While the "Brokeback Mountain" star initially seemed rather surprised upon hearing news about the rumors, he went on to tell the KISS-FM radio station: "That's super flattering. I mean, I have not heard that, but if that's true then that's a nice thing. It's always nice to be considered."
When radio DJ Ryan Seacrest asked if he'd be interested in pursuing the role, Gyllenhaal exclaimed, "Yeah, of course! I always want to work, man, of course."
It doesn't look like Gyllenhaal has read the book trilogy, but he is an actor known to be able to successfully transform himself into a number of different types of characters ("Brokeback Mountain," "October Sky," "Brothers," Donnie Darko," "Bubble Boy"...). So maybe he'd be perfect for the part of Grey - a successful, good-looking business man who befriends a young college graduate (Anastasia Steele) and introduces her to an enticing world of bondage and kinky sexual desire.
The author of the highly acclaimed erotica novel, E.L. James, made a recent appearance on Katie Couric's new daytime talk show. While James claims she has narrowed it down to seven actors and actresses that she thinks would be perfect to snag the main roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, she didn't give any specific names or details. When asked about the film James went on to say, "It's a sort of collaborative effort, but there's, you know, a studio, a production company, there's two producers, and at some point there's going to be a director. So I'm sure everybody will have input into that."
There are many other heartthrob actors that fans are pinning for to get the role of Grey, Ryan Gosling, Ian Somerhalder, and Matt Bomer just to name a few. And of course now Gyllenhaal. What do "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans think of Gyllenhaal getting excited over his name being mentioned for the part of Grey?
