Since Ivan Reitman exited the project, Sony has been searching the right all-female comedic cast for the Ghostbusters sequel. Now Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has approached actresses Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon to take on Ghostbusters 3 reboot.
As we previously mentioned, the third installment of the Ghostbuster franchise has faced many obstacles. Harold Ramis, who co-wrote the original with Dan Aykroyd, sadly passed away. His untimely death caused the script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg to be rewritten by Katie Dippold. Though Bill Murray returned as Peter Vankman in the Ghostbusters videogame, the Groundhog Day actor has not committed to star in the latest sequel.
When The Office director came onboard, his plans were aimed to follow a female-led spook-fest. Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence were even rumored to join the cast, during the much-hyped Sony leaks.
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that The Heat comedian has signed on for the horror/comedy reboot. Negotiations are already in place for the Bridesmaids starlet, as well as the Saturday Night Live players Jones and McKinnon. The phantom-chasing foursome will be shooting in New York sometime this summer.
According to Deadline, Feig also made the announcement through his official Twitter account, sharing a snapshot of his cast:

As reported here, IDW Publishing continued the franchise as a comic book series. In the mythology, fan-favorite secretary Janine Melnitz became an honorary member of the team when the original members were sucked into another dimension. It's not a stretch at all to see an all-female ghostbusters team, especially with Feig's comedic strengths.
