‘Whiplash’ Star J.K. Simmons, Kenan Thompson ‘SNL’ Promos: Academy Award Nominee Braces For “Snowmageddon 2015” With Musical Guest D’Angelo [VIDEO]

Okay, so "Snowmageddon 2015" wasn't as "mageddon" as we were thinking––at least, for the New York City area, that is. Still, despite all the news and shutdown of NYC, the folks over at Saturday Night Live were still ready to prep for this Saturday's show with host J.K. Simmons and musical guest D'Angelo. In fact, the winter event was even parodied in this week's SNL promos, which the Whiplash star is featured in alongside longtime player Kenan Thompson.

SNL released the promos of Simmons and Thompson earlier today, Wednesday, Jan. 28.

The duo kick off the below promos outside of Rockefeller Center, mocking the lack-o-intensity of Winter Storm Juno.

Finally, after a couple of boomerang snowballs, they head on inside to warm up their vocals...

Hmm, what a bummer––we really thought J.K. stood for Jumper Keeper. Though, Jellybean Kink is also a win.

Simmons, of course, is nominated for an Academy Award for his appearance in 2014's indie film Whiplash, which details the story of a "promising young drummer" who "enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential," per IMDB.

Of course, Simmons plays the said instructor...

Be sure to tune into Saturday Night Live this coming Saturday, Jan. 31 to watch J.K. Simmons take to the host role. And sure, D'Angelo, too. Why not! He's pretty psyched too...
