Lake Labynkyr is home to a mysterious monster called the 'Devil' by the locals.  It's been an age old myth that a monster lurks in the deep waters of the Syberian lake.  Some refer to this unknown creature as "Russia's Loch Ness Monster," though it has existed in tales way before the Loch Ness monster of Scotland was mentioned.

Lake Labynkyr is located 60 kilometers from Omymyakon, a town considered the "coldest place on earth."  No plant life exists around the lake, and it is the only lake that does not ever freeze, the Herald Sun reported. Other lakes in the area turns into ice when the weather falls below zero.

Recently, an associate professor of Biogeography named Lyudmila Emeliyanova took on a scientific mission in search of this "monster."

Emeliyanova's trip to the lake provided clues that support the existence of some creature that is definitely not a fish nor is it a big non-living object like a piece of log.

"It was our fourth or fifth day at the lake when our echo sounding device registered a huge object in the water under our boat," Emeliyanova told The Siberian Times.

"The object was very dense, of homogeneous structure, surely not a fish nor a shoal of fish, and it was above the bottom. I was very surprised but not scared and not shocked, after all we did not see this animal, we only registered a strange object in the water. But I can clearly say - at the moment, as a scientist, I cannot offer you any explanation of what this object might be," she continued.

"I can't say we literally found and touched something unusual there but we did register with our echo sounding device several seriously big underwater objects, bigger than a fish, bigger than even a group of fish.
"This mysterious and very deep lake still has some secret to tell us."
The locals have said that the creature would lift boats up from the water, and that it makes a wailing sound when it attacks.

The research continues and maybe one day the creature will be identified.
