Missy Elliot commented on the controversial new Aaliyah album, being executively produced by Drake, who has decided to leave out the deceased singer's closet musical allies.
Its been eleven years since the death of 22-year-old singer, dancer, and actress Aaliyah shocked the world. Many hearts were broken, including her two record producers, Missy Elliott and Timberland, who helped to produce the singer's hit album, One In A Million, which sold over eight million records worldwide. Fans got a glimpse of hope with the news of new post-humous Aaliyah album, but Timberland and Missy got a slap in the face as they were isolated from its production.
Drizzy Drake has made it known that he is a big Aaliyah fan. It has been rumored that the young MC has been operating as the overseer for the supposed upcoming LP.
Drake has angered some fans and Aaliyah's closet two industry friends by his move.
With the arrival of the first single, "Enough Said" with him featured on the track, Elliot has said that see hasn't been able to bring herself to listen to it.
Despite the dismay that Timberland and Elliot are facing, Elliot doesn't want to contribute to any controversy concerning her belated friend.
"I don't even want to talk about that because I'm being asked a lot," she told MTV's RapFix. "It's very sensitive, but because she represented positive energy. She was positive. I don't ever want to bring controversy around her name."
Elliot and Timberland spoke lightly to Hot 87's Angie Martinez about the sensitive issue, relaying that haven't been contacted to make any contribution to the LP.
"I have to respect her family, and until they come and say, 'We're ready to do an Aaliyah album,' then I don't really want to come and try to get into that because that's very sensitive."
Beyond the first single "Enough Said," there are speculations as to what the overall LP will sound. Elliot wasn't sure what the outcome would be but she offered her thoughts.
"It's not records that have already done came out. We're talking about unfinished music," she told Hot 97. "We don't know what [Aaliyah's] reasoning [was] for not putting those records out; maybe she felt like they weren't her best work."
Aside from the Aaliyah controversy, Elliot has had her hands full releasing the two new singles "9th Inning" and "Triple Threat."
