'The Americans' Season 3 Spoilers: Will Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys Suffer "Loss & Pain" From Yousaf Ranna? [WATCH]

After months of teasing, Season 3 ofThe Americans finally began on FX. As the spy/family drama picked up from its previous cliff-hanger, will Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys) suffer tremendous "pain and loss" from their latest target,Yousaf Rana (Rahul Khanna)?

As we previously mentioned, the KGB spies Elizabeth (Russell) and Philip (Rhys) are having a moral crisis with their latest orders. In the second season finale, Elizabeth and Philip discovered the Center wants to recruit their daughter, Paige (Holly Taylor). Will these two parents make the decision for their daughter? Or let her live a normal life?

In our recent recap, Elizabeth had to fight her way through two FBI agent after she lost an important list of names. When she wasn't not in the spy game, Elizabeth was attending church with Paige, wondering if she's ready to be developed and join the cause. Elizabeth confessed to Philip that her mother is dying back home.

Elsewhere, Philip sent in his mole, Annalise, to seduce and get information from his target, Yousaf, a foreign intelligence operative. While listening in on their sexual rendezvous, Philip overhears Yousaf choking the life out of Annalise. Philip entered the room finally, not to save her, but make a deal with Yousaf to cover up the murder.

In an interview with Time, co-showrunner Joel Fields explains how sex and violence will reveal something about their characters and deepen their stories, "The greatest surprise in that scene is what develops between Philip and Yousaf when Philip comes into that room. They both brought such pain and realism to that loss that they were both responsible for."

Fields and fellow showrunner Joe Weisberg add that Philip and Elizabeth will face even stickier situations this upcoming season, which just spells trouble for the Russian spies.
