Katie Couric made a confession of her struggles with image that led her battle with the eating disorder, bulimia, back in her college days. On the Kate Couric new show, she welcomed special guest Demi Lovato who also experienced issues with image and self-confidence that caused the singer to seek treatment for "emotional and physical issues" 2 years ago.
The two had a heart to heart conversation and Couric opened up about her dark past.
"I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that. And I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that's wrong, you're full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself, whether it's one cookie or a stick of gum that isn't sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that," Couric shared.
"How do you have a healthy relationship with food, and say, 'You know what, I can have one cookie and it's okay?' That is such a huge thing for people who wrestle with this."
With the unrealistic standards of beauty in Hollywood, many young women are affected by bulimia. Those who suffer from it eat, however they splurge all the food out later.
Thankfully, Couric received help from a therapist who led her to overcome it once and for all.
