Pattie Mallette, mom of pop megastar Justin Bieber, should be proud of the successful young man her son has grown up to be considering the painful, toxic experiences she had to personally endure during her youth. In Mallette's new tell-all book "Nowhere but Up: The story of Justin Bieber's Mom," the 37-year-old opens up about her harrowing yet inspiring past - about how drugs, alcohol, sexual abuse, and being a teen mom impacted her life and made her into the woman that she is today.
Mallette was approximately 2-years-old when her alcoholic father abandoned her. The next year, at age 3, she was sexually abused by someone that she knew. The abuse grew over the years to include many molesters, including the grandfather of a friend. Mallette turned to drugs and alcohol at the young age of 14 to try and numb all the pain, but when the effects of LSD and marijuana wore off she was left more heartbroken than ever. She left home at the tender age of 16, and turned to a life of petty crime and drug dealing in order to get by. During this time is when she entered an unhealthy relationship with Justin's biological father, Jeremy Bieber, and at the age of 17 threw herself in front of a truck in an attempt to end her life. She survived, and landed herself in a mental ward, where she began to lead a Christian life. That is until she was released and eventually hooked back up with Jeremy - not too long after, at 18-years-old, she found herself pregnant and living in a home for young expecting woman. When Mallette delivered baby Justin on March 1, 1994, she had to turn her life around.
These are just some of gut-wrenching stories from Mallette's past that she opens up about in her new tell-all book.
With the help of government assistance and some good-hearted acquaintances, along with hard work and dedication, Mallette was able to take care and provide for young Justin, even earning herself a high school degree and taking college training courses for website design. Over the years, Justin found that he had a knack and passion for singing. After gaining some recognition from videos posted by Mallette on YouTube, Justin was signed by music manager Scooter Braun at the age of 13. Now, at 18-years-old, the same age when Mallette gave birth to him, Justin Bieber is a worldwide superstar.
Mallette admitted in a recent interview, "Writing the book was part of my healing process. Just having to relive things as I'm writing it down. There are parts that are still painful to go over."
But things have made a complete 180-turn in Mallette's life, and all for the better - she is even considering diving back into the world of dating.
And as for Justin's take on the whole mom-dating matter - "He's pretty protective, but yeah, definitely, he would have to approve."
