In her new tell-all memoir entitled Straight Walk: A Supermodel's Journey to Finding Her Truth, stunning Venezuelan actress and fashion model Patricia Carola Velásquez Semprún reveals that she's a lesbian. According to the 44-year-old starlet, her young daughter Maya gave her the courage and strength to finally come out.
While promoting her book in a recent interview with Yahoo! Parenting, Velasquez explains:
"It's very difficult to face your past, so I put off doing anything like this for a long time... But as my daughter started growing up and I was teaching her to be honest and proud, I knew it was time for me to set an example-and that meant facing my truth. For me, living life with truth and honesty is the one thing I want to make sure she understands."
"The Mummy" actress shares her eight-year-old child with ex-partner, Lauren. They broke-up shortly after the birth.
Velasquez's memoir is now available for pre-order on Amazon, and will officially hit book-stands on February 10, 2015. The hardcover is currently priced at $19.96.
The former supermodel - who once represented several big-name franchises including Chanel, Gucci, and Victoria's Secret - emotionally opens-up about her sexuality and love life. She was in a longterm, committed relationship with famed comedianne Sandra Bernard before starting a relationship with her current girlfriend, Ileanna. The couple has been living together for a year.
Velasquez never hid her homosexuality, but this is the first time she openly discusses her personal romances and struggles. She also focuses on the difficulties of growing up poor in Venezuela before becoming a celebrity.
Several fans have since offered their support and encouragement on Twitter. Velasquez is also widely considered the "World's First Latina Supermodel."
