Season 3 of The Americans continues with an all-new episode on FX. As the spy/family drama picks up from last season's cliff-hanger, will Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) Jennings eventually find their own daughter, Paige (Holly Taylor) "dead in a suitcase?"

As we previously mentioned, the KGB spies Elizabeth (Russell) and Philip (Rhys) are having a moral crisis with their latest orders. In the second season finale, Elizabeth and Philip discovered the Center is thinking of recruiting their daughter, Paige (Holly Taylor).

In our previous recap, Philip had sent in his mole, Annalise, to seduce and get information from his target, Yousaf, a foreign intelligence operative. While listening in on their sexual rendezvous, Philip overhears Yousaf choking the life out of Annalise. Philip entered the room finally, not to save her, but make a deal with Yousaf to cover up the murder.

In our recent recap, Philip and Elizabeth had to break every bone in Annalise before putting her in a suitcase. He explained to Elizabeth that the unpredictable nature of their work always leads to death. If they give up Paige to the Center, she will end up dead in a suitcase as well, or even worse. While the two argue over their daughter's future, Paige thinks her father is having an affair because of his late nights "at work."

In an interview with Yahoo TV, showrunner Joel Fields explains why that moment was crucial, "That was a good expression. We always talk about how our characters, all of them, are not in touch with their feelings, and they're not able to express themselves well. That works well for the show. In this case, because of what he'd just been through, there was a very simple and clear way that he could express his feelings, that he could be in touch enough to say that."

Because Philip and Elizabeth stand firmly in their position about Paige, will the debate drive a wedge to their bond? Fields teases, "That's the question about marriage. How do you... I think all marriages, most marriages, have incredibly serious and incredibly dangerous, intense conflicts, and you either stay in or you get out. If you stay in, how do you manage those conflicts?

Co-showrunner Joe Weisberg adds, "That's really what we wanted to explore this season."
