Individuals (especially women) have undergone cosmetic treatments such as Botox to enhance their physical features for years, but the newest "body art" trend that has swept over the nation of Japan has many people turning their heads, usually either in total wonder or bewilderment - the bagel head trend. The procedure involves inserting saline bagel-shaped injections into one's forehead, giving off the appearance that the popular bread product has actually been imbued right smack-dab between one's eyebrows. So what do Mstarz readers think - cool and fashionable or completely odd and disturbing?

The bizarre Tokyo bagel head fashion trend, which has become a big part of the Japanese "body modification" art scene, was studied in a recent episode of "National Geographic Taboo." The television series takes an "educational look into 'taboo' rituals and traditions practiced in some societies, yet forbidden and illegal in others."

Japanese artist Keroppy, who pioneered the mind-altering look (literally), explained to Vice back in 2009 that the bagel head trend is all about innovation, which is what makes it so intriguing and popular: "People who like extreme body modification want to find their own way of doing things, and they're always looking for new ways to do that. The more progressive the scene gets, the more these people have to experiment and go their own way."

Check out a sneak-peak of the "Taboo" episode on bagel heads here (if you're not a big fan of needles, it's recommended that you turn your head):

Basically, approximately 13.5 oz. of saline are injected into the forehead to create a large blob. The saline-administrator then places his/her thumb into the large mass to create the indentation. The procedure takes two hours and the bagel head look last less than a day (about 16 hours).

Some critics are deeming Japan's newest fashion fad as pretty dangerous, given the amount of saline being directly injected into the forehead. What do Mstarz readers think, would you give the bagel head look a try?
