The world has been caught up in the hype surrounding Fifty Shades of Grey since it was announced that they were making the E.L. James erotic novel into a feature film. But it seems that as the movie release date draws closer, the frenzy surrounding the franchise is getting out of control. While Today has been releasing clips for the steamy sex flick for the last two weeks in anticipation, it might be Matt Lauer's antics during this interview with Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson that really got us excited for the movie.

Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kobt's co-star decided to don a leather-studded harness and held a whip in his hands in honor of the movie, while interviewing the actors who play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

Now, while you might be thinking isn't that a little bit too much for morning TV, we have to burst your bubble and confess that it isn't real.

Ellen DeGeneres decided to play a prank on her NBC family, as she cleverly edited Lauer's head onto the body of a BDSM fan and superimposed it into his interview with Dornan and Johnson.

Ellen then ran the spoof during her talk show, prefacing it by saying, "The Today show has been showing exclusive clips of the movie for the past two weeks and they have been interviewing the stars, and boy are they getting into it. I was watching this morning and Matt Lauer ... just take a look."

According to E! News, Lauer was a good sport about the whole thing and even pulled out some handcuffs on today's broadcast.

His co-star Savannah Guthrie took to her Twitter account to post a picture of the handcuffs, writing, "Spotted on @MLauer's side of the desk. Hmm."

Catch Fifty Shades of Grey when it opens in theaters Feb. 13.
