Kara Alongi, the missing New Jersey teenager who sent out a scary tweet on Sunday about a home invader before mysteriously disappearing, has been safely returned to her home and reunited with her worried family. Police found 16-year-old Alongi walking along the New Jersey Turnpike in Carneys Point near Exit 1 on Tuesday - she was promptly transported to a nearby South Jersey hospital for evaluation before being sent back to her Union County home Tuesday evening.

Chief of the Clark Police Department Alan Scherb said on Wednesday, "Kara was transferred to a North Jersey hospital overnight for additional evaluations and was released a short time later and returned home early this morning."

Alongi was last seen Sunday - her mother Kim told The Star-Ledger she had skipped out on her brother's hockey game because of a headache. Later that day the teen sent out this scary, misspelled post on Twitter: "There is somone in my hour ecall (sic) 911." She then disappeared, causing a nationwide panic on the popular social networking site. The home invader tweet went viral - it was re-tweeted approximately 34,000 times and influenced about 6,000 concerned citizens to phone the police. However, once the investigation was underway, many inconsistences in Alongi's case began to pop up, especially since there were no signs of any foul play. Police soon discovered that Alongi had actually called a cab around the same time she posting the worrisome tweet - a taxi driver identified Alongi and said he had drove her to a nearby train station, where she ended up buying a ticket to New York City. The tweet was eventually deemed a hoax, although Alongi was still considered a "missing persons."

Police have no idea how Alongi ended up on the side of the NJ Turnpike - Chief Scherb says detectives are trying to question Alongi to determine the girl's whereabouts over the past two days. He insists that additional information will be released when it becomes available.
