Former NFL defensive star and Super Bowl champ Warren Sapp is placing his 10,000 square-foot Windermere, Florida mansion up on the auction block as part of a bankruptcy case. An ad for the house auction was printed in the New York Times and a number of other publications.

The extravagant Tuscan-style Orlando, FL home and property (designed by architect Terry Irwin and built in 2005 by Akers Custom Homes), includes four bedrooms, a pool with a water slide, a movie theater, and a two-story wine cellar among other amenities. The mansion is located in the upscale, gated community of Lake Butler Sound. Sapp bought the home for a whopping $7 million - it goes up for auction on Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. According to the Orange County property appraiser's website, the value of the Windermere mansion today is approximately $3.4 million.

Sapp filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy back in April, saying he owed $6.7 million to creditors, but didn't have the assets to back it up. A Florida judge discharged his bankruptcy case in September, but Sapp is still piled under thousands of dollars' worth of tax debt, child support, and alimony. Sapp hopes that by auctioning off his luxurious home, most of his debts will finally be settled - he didn't want to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but had no other options. "Do you think I wanted to declare bankruptcy?" the 39-year-old told reporters. "Do you think, if there was any other way possible, I would have done it? It was either this or go to jail."

Sapp, who played college football for the University of Miami Hurricanes, went on to play in the NFL for 13 seasons. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1995 and spent nine seasons with the team, earning a Super Bowl ring in 2002. He moved to the Raiders in 2004 and retired from the game in 2007.
