Kara Alongi Found But Could Face Charges for Internet Hoax

Missing teen Kara Alongi was finally found after 48 hours of search with great concern from family, friends, and the web community.  Initially, everyone was made to believe that the 16-year-old had been kidnapped according to a Twitter post on Alongi's account that read, "There is someone in my hour ecall 911."  That tweet was retweeted more than 32,00 becoming a viral sensation.  Over 6000 calls were made to the police by concerned citizens for the young girl's safety.  Twitter was also flooded with the #hashtag #helpfindkara.

Alongi's mother reported her daughter missing after coming home to an empty house and the Clark, NJ police arrived at their home to investigate immediately.  A cab driver confirmed that he had driven a young girl matching the description of Alongi to the Rahway train station.  As more clues surfaced including a photo capture of Alongi waiting for the train caught in the surveillance camera, the police confirmed that the high school student had not been kidnapped.  It turned into a teen runaway case.

Alongi's family pleaded for her to return home through videos and statements.

Two days after her cryptic Twitter message was posted on Sunday, the teenager finally dialed 911.  It was reported that the police picked her up at a New Jersey highway rest stop and she finally reunited with her family.

"Possibly she can face charges down the road," the Clark police chief, Alan Scherb said to reporters on Wednesday, adding that she would "at the very minimum" face charges for creating a false public alarm.
