Actress Daryl Hannah was arrested in Texas on Thursday during an environmental protest geared towards an oil pipeline designed to bring crude oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast. Apparently Hannah's wrist was injured during the arrest - the 51-year-old activist claims that a TransCanada security guard grabbed her arm and hurt her during the debacle. 78-year-old landowner Eleanor Fairchild was also arrested for criminal trespassing.

Hannah and Fairfield were attempting to halt construction of the Keystone XL pipeline which ran through Fairfield's Winnsboro farm by standing in front of and blocking the passage of heavy equipment. They were arrested for criminal trespassing and taken to the Wood County Jail. According to the "Associated Press," Hannah also faces a charge of resisting arrest.

The "Splash" actress, long-opposed to the $7 billion tar-sands crude oil TransCanada pipeline, was also arrested in August 2011 during a protest in Washington. Hannah and fellow protestors argue that the pipeline "would be unsafe because it would be carrying heavy, acidic crude oil that could more easily corrode a metal pipe, which would lead to a spill." Protestors also claim that refining the oil would further contaminate the air in a region that has long struggled with pollution.

David Dodson, a spokesperson for TransCanada, wrote the AP in an open email: "It is unfortunate Ms. Hannah and other out-of-state activists have chosen to break the law by illegally trespassing on private property," but they are "putting their own safety and the safety of others at risk."

Meanwhile, Hannah's manager Paul Bassis released a statement on Thursday reading: "The streets of Winnsboro will be much safer tonight now that they've gotten that 78-year-old great grandmother off the streets."

Late Thursday, a public statement made by the imprisoned Hannah was released to KLTV:

"I was peacefully protesting the unwanted advances of Trans Canada on Eleanor Fairchild's land. She has stated very clearly that she doesn't want them there and they insist on bullying her and taking away her land through eminent domain. We just sort of stood in front of them and held our hands in a stop motion. I'm holding my wrist because there was this private security guard hired by TransCanada and he injured my wrist."
