Good Morning America's gay weather anchor Sam Champion is now engaged to his boyfriend Rubem Robierb. The announcement was made subtly through a New York Times article that was covering Patrick Abner and Thomas Roberts' wedding.
Champion revealed, "We're getting married New Year's Eve in Miami." Now fiancé Robierb added, "We'll do it [in New York] officially, and then have a party in Miami."
Champion's sexual orientation was not a secret to the GMA staff nor others in the industry, however it wasn't a topic he spoke publicly about on television until recently.
The 51-year-old weather man expressed in a statement on ABCNews.com on Friday, "We are thrilled and so excited and thank everyone for their good wishes."
GLAAD President Herndon Graddick also congratulated their engagement in statement. "Sam has been a good friend and longtime supporter of GLAAD, and I wish him and Rubem the absolute best," he said.
More public figures have been coming out in the recent months including Anderson Cooper and Jim Parsons.
