Courtney Stodden and husband Doug Hutchinson's appearance on the VH! show "Couples Therapy" brought a lot of drama to the house. In the recent episode, Stodden was called "trash" and Hutchinson was ready to fight in defense of his 18-year-old wife.
The Dirty blog founder Nik Richie and his wife Shayne Lamas felt the controversial couple's large age gap and Stodden's raunchy outfits were too much of a distraction.
When Richie was asked if he recognized who Stodden was, he said, "Of course, she's the trash all over the internet," immediately prompting Hutchinson to stand up on his feet to respond, "Did you just call my wife trash?"
The controversial couple came into the spotlight when 52-year-old Hutchinson wed Stodden when she was just a teenager. The 34 year age gap brought a lot of criticism and even Hutchinson's own family disowned him for his decision to marry Stodden.
There were some awkward moments on the show when Stodden and Hutchinson spoke about their age gap.
The teenage bride revealed, "I call him "Dad" instead of "Doug" sometimes."
"See this is the thing, I am raising my wife!" Hutchinson laughingly said.
After the show, Stodden tweeted, "Couples Therapy was hilar! Love VH1 :)" seeming to be unaffected by the drama that occurred.
Here are some internet reactions to the conversation where the couple joked about their marriage being similar to a father daughter relationship.
"Something seriously wrong with both of them. She refers to him as "dad" and he sees her as his daughter. ... F So sick!" wrote NesserFace from Vancouver.
"I think it's a bit harsh calling her trash, even if she acts trashy, as she's just a kid being exploited by her mother and her "dad"/husband. If anyone deserves criticism, it's Doug Hutchinson. A man of 52 should be dissuading his 16 year old daughter from getting married not marrying a 16 year old..." said HZ from Angus.
"I don't think she's trash. The girl is just a bit lost....she'll find her way one day. Grandpa on the other hand.....yeah, definitely something wrong with him!" said Taz from Here.
