Lady Gaga performed an amazing 50th anniversary tribute to "The Sound of Music" during Sunday evening's Academy Awards (February 22). Several fans and critics (including beloved actress Julie Andrews) praised the ARTPOP songstress' beautifully emotional performance:

But apparently, local Cleveland, Ohio news anchor Kristi Capel wasn't so impressed. During a rather shocking Fox 8 broadcast, Capel made this rather offensive statement:

"It's hard to really hear her voice with all that jigaboo music. Whatever you want to call it... jigaboo!"

Apparently, the aspiring newscaster didn't realize that "jigaboo" is actually considered a racial slur against African Americans. According to dictionary.com, "jigaboo" is an "extremely disparaging, offensive, and contemptuous term used to refer to a black person."

Capel's co-host Wayne Dawson simply stared at her in awkward horror:

The controversial clip is currently going viral online, prompting Capel to make a heartfelt apology on Twitter:

I do apologize if I offended you, I didn't know the meaning behind it or that it was even a word. Thank you for watching.

She continues responding individually to fans. Well, she definitely has her name out there now.

Of course, several viewers are still in an outraged uproar. Will this hurt Capel's future career in the reporting business?

‏@SnottieDrippen: "Weird @Kristi_Capel for not knowing 'jigaboo' meant or if it was even a word, you used it in the EXACT same context a racist would. Unlucky."

@PiaGlenn: "so I open Twitter to see that Miss lady really said 'jigaboo' on camera in 2015... MONDAYS, AMIRITE?"

@Karnythia: "So jigaboo was used & the woman who said it claims she didn't know what it means? Farreal?"

@russbengtson: "Don't think we're giving enough credit to @Kristi_Capel for thinking she invented the word 'jigaboo.'"

@BoneyStarks: "Usually I'm not one for the Twitter lynch mob. But there really isn't a contextual argument one could make for saying jigaboo on TV."

Mother Monster has yet to respond - hopefully she plans on keeping the more positive reactions in mind.
