After being played on the the big screen by actress Emma Stone, Gwen Stacy is getting her own series from Marvel Comics. Fresh off the epic Spider-Verse event, there is a new Spider-Woman in town, as writer Jason Latour and artist Robbi Rodriguez introduce newcomers and longtime fans to Spider-Gwen #1.

As we previously mentioned, Latour and Rodriguez revealed the new redesign of Spider-Woman. In this re-imagination of the origin story, it's not Peter Parker who gets accidentally bitten by the radioactive spider. In this new what-if storyline, Gwen Stacey, the first love of Peter's life, puts on the Spidey costume and fights crime in the streets of New York.

According to the plot synopsis, Gwen Stacy is smart, tough, and charming; plus she is one helluva drummer. Like any ordinary teen girl, Gwen drums in a punk rock band, while getting straight As in high school. But during the night, Spider-Gwen uses her amazing powers to take down crime. Unfortunately, NYPD Police Chief George Stacy has some terrible news for his daughter when he has to place her under arrest.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Latour discusses how Spider-Verse has affect Gwen, "That experience is not going to be forgotten, because you have to remember, in her own world, she's a criminal. She comes back from this big superhero war where she's inspired by all these heroic Spider-folks and she looks at her own life and says, "How am I getting it so wrong? Why am I cast as a villain? What can I do about it?"

The Scalped writer adds, "So this very first arc is about her trying to use Spider-Woman to change those things, to correct the course of her life. Again, she's left her father in a really strange position, and she's left her band mates, so one of the big questions of the first arc is, can she reconcile being Gwen Stacy and Spider-Woman?"

As we previously mentioned, during the Secret Wars crossover event, Marvel's female superheroes will join together to form A-Force. Will Spider-Gwen show up as a member of the team? The Southern Bastards writer adds, ". I think for the foreseeable future -- the events of Secret Wars are complicated, and I don't know what they're going to do to the publishing schedule, but as far as Gwen having a book and story of her own, we're on pretty safe footing, so long as the sales stay good."

Spider-Gwen #1 arrives in stores on February 25.
