No - Sugar Ray crooner Mark McGrath is NOT dead!

And the infamous celebrity death hoax strikes again. This time, thanks to a morbid publicity stunt gone wrong.

The 46-year-old rocker currently stars on the hit Adult Swim series, "Hot Package." But McGrath was not recently shot and killed while filming on-set.

Apparently, several popular media outlets received a vast e-mail earlier this week sent by an unidentified marketing firm. The shockingly seedy message claimed that McGrath was indeed dead:

BREAKING NEWS: MARK McGRATH IS DEAD.

Musician Mark McGrath has died at the age of 46. McGrath was on set filming the second season of entertainment show Hot Package, when he was confronted by a masked gunman and shot several times. The former Sugar Ray frontman died in the arms of his co-host Derrick Beckles on the Hollywood set of the show.

Horrible!

However, the unofficial announcement ends on this rather suspicious note:

"In honor of Mr. McGrath's legacy, his team is asking in liu (sic) of flowers, fans post a Sugar Ray Selfie, holding a packet of sugar over their heart. #RIPMARKMCGRATH."

Interestingly enough, this hoaxter did manage to attain a legit PR list of contacts.

The bogus #RIP rumors quickly began trending on Twitter, with several fans debunking the hoax:

@LydiaHarvey: "Yeah, I got that #RIPMarkMcGrath email, too. People are the worst."

@johnpicciuto: "I thoroughly enjoy twitter deciding to arbitrarily kill pseudo celebrities ever so randomly. RIP (or not) mark mcgrath ha."

@rachelzarrell: "Guys. Come on. #RIPMarkMcGrath is clearly a stunt."

@MyMagicMobi: "I haven't seen any selfies of people holding sugar packs over their hearts yet? ... April came a month early this year. #RIPmarkmcgrath."

@ZlataThoughts: "Just got a media alert that Mark McGrath died. I really don't believe it! @TMZ where are you at?! #RIPMarkMcGrath."

Did McGrath actually "fake" his own death to help boost his career!?

The television host hasted tweeted since Wednesday... Get more info here.
