A Cyclops kitten deemed "Cleyed the Cyclops" became a viral YouTube hit after its owner posted a video of the one-eyed, no-noised, urban legend-looking Bengal kitty miracle on Saturday (Oct. 6). The poor, unusual-looking creature died shortly after its birth, but his shocked owners made sure to honor the life of such a special kitten by sharing his amazing story with the public.
The YouTube video (which features the decrepit body of "Cleyed the Cyclops") description reads:
"All of us in the operating room experienced a VERY RARE once in a lifetime (hopefully) kitten births. To start off, both horns of the uterus were twisted together THREE times. After untwisting the horns our veterinarian started the surgery and she removed the first baby, the baby was handed to me and I started drying her off."
The owner rushed her pregnant Bengal cat to the vet because she was experiencing difficulty delivering and probably would have died without medical intervention and an emergency C-Section. Along with the Cyclops the mama cat birthed two other kitties on Thursday, Oct. 4 and they are currently doing fine.
The video description goes on to claim that "Cleyed the Cyclops" was born alive, but survived "only a short time." The owner's reaction when handed the Cyclops miracle in the operating room: "WOW!!!! He floored me, I was in shock as I have only seen a picture of a Cyclops kitten like this ONCE ever... and that was on the Internet," the description says. "This was a horribly sad experience, but very intriguing to us all."
Although unusual, many baby animals are actually born with the condition called Cyclopia (or cyclocephaly or synophthalmia). Una is another famous one-eyed cat who is supposedly still alive and well. Although not one-eyed, Li'l Bub the "perma-kitten" (born toothless and with stubby-legs) also became a huge YouTube hit after the owner posted cute kitty videos online.
