Pop megastar Justin Bieber is the latest celeb to fall victim of a morbid "swatting" 911 call prank. L.A. police responded to an emergency call on Tuesday from a "witness" who claimed that a lunatic was waving a gun aimed straight at Bieber's home. After all the hysteria (law enforcement cars, helicopters, and officers promptly arrived at the scene), turns out it was all just a hoax. In fact, the Biebs wasn't even in L.A. - he was actually in Tacoma, WA for a pit-stop on his Believe tour.

TMZ reports that once police personnel arrived, Justin's security peeps calmly let them in to do a full sweep of the premises - yup, nothing seemed to be wrong or out-of-place. And there were definitely no signs of a madman brandishing a gun.

The L.A.P.D. believe that Bieber was just another celeb victim of a morbid prank known as "swatting" -when a "911 abuser" attempts to trick law enforcement to dispatch units by calling in a serious crime, which only proves to be a false alarm in the end. The same thing happened to Miley Cyrus not too long ago - she too was not even home when the event occurred. Police say that the bogus 911 dialer probably used an app to do so.

Such "swatting" can lead to some serious repercussions, including arrest and prosecution for "false allegation."
