Lots of crazy things go down in Las Vegas - but to see a wallaby (a kangaroo-like animal native to Australia and rarely found in the States) roaming the streets is most definitely bizarre. But that was the sight police came upon when called to the area close to singer Wayne Newton's Las Vegas mansion on Tuesday morning- a wild wallaby, running loose in the neighborhood. Although Newton owns a number of the unique Macropodidae species, he told law enforcement that the lost, wandering wallaby didn't belong to him. So that begs the question - just how many people own wallabies out in the middle of the Nevada desert?

For those readers who think Newton is blatantly lying about the poor misplaced wallaby, think again - the animal was rescued by Clark County Animal Control and promptly returned to its original owner (whose name has not been released, but it's not Wayne Newton, apparently...).

Odd.

"I'd love to know how many people in that neighborhood, other than Wayne Newton, own wallabies," Oklahoma City resident Randy Stevens said. "They aren't your usual pets. I'm sure with a little research, it wouldn't be too hard to find out who all owns them."

The good thing here is that the wallaby was safely returned to its home. And it is entertaining to picture Newton as an avid wallaby pet owner.
