Kilt Girls: California Woman Can't Fit into Skirt Uniform, Denied Job at Popular Pub Restaurant [VIDEO]

A young California woman who recently applied as a "kilt girl" server at the popular restaurant Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery was supposedly denied the job because she couldn't fit into the standard skirt uniform. 20-year-old Jennifer Rogers claims that she made it through the entire kilt girls application process - until it came to trying on the sexy and skimpy waitress uniform. According to restaurant general manager Bryan VanderMeer, the kilt girl image is very important for the success of the Titled Kilt Pub and Eatery and that his job is to not simply employ servers, but to hire (attractive) entertainers.

The Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery - which labels itself the "Best Looking Sports Pub You've Ever Seen" - has 65 franchises in 22 states. The restaurant location in Palm Desert, CA is reopening after having been closed for two years. Rogers responded to the position (casting call) on the restaurant's website, which stated applicants must "adhere to the established appearance guidelines" and "maintain a costume fit, as detailed in the appearance guidelines."

After denied the job because the kilt girls outfit looked too tight on her, Rogers made a public statement to ABC's KESQ station: "Because the skirt was a size too small, they said that I could not work there. I couldn't wear the uniform."

While the restaurant franchise has received some criticism since Rogers has publicized her story, Palm Desert general manager VanderMeer still heatedly defends the company's right to uphold "specific costume requirements." He insists that current casting calls for kilt girls in the local area have been a huge success. "We've had a lot more people than I expected who actually fill the requirements of this position, and we are really excited to bring them to the valley and show the valley what we have

The company released this statement to ABC News: "The Tilted Kilt girl image is an important part of our concept. Just like when a director is trying to cast parts for a movie, that is how we view our hiring process."

Still, Rogers isn't too pleased about being denied the job because of her body size: "Why should anyone have to look a certain way to work at a different place?" Rogers said. "It's not fair."

Even so, there's really nothing the young waitress can do about it - federal law prohibits hiring on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin, but there are no stipulations regarding body type.
